Council on Cosmetic Teeth Whitening- Is your spa teeth whitening vendor a member?

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Recently, a tanning salon in Wyoming was challenged by the local dental board for offering cosmetic teeth whitening. http://www.gillettenewsrecord.com/articles/2010/06/02/news/state_news/news59.txt     Reports like this can cause concern for tanning salon owners but if you are partnering with the right teeth whitening vendor, you can feel confident your are offering the service correctly and if anything should happen you have their strong legal guidance and support so that you can continue to bring in happy customers and healthy profits.

Many salons purchase product based on price.  That is unfortunate because a good teeth whitening vendor can offer you so much more than cheap product.  Besides product purity and better results, some vendors can keep you abreast of the latest trends and dental regulations that impact your business as well as best practices based on changing legal requirements to protect you.  It is critical that you partner with a vendor that is a member of the Council on Cosmetic Teeth Whitening CCTW.  The old adage, you get what you pay for is certainly true with teeth whitening.

A vendor that is a member of the Council on Cosmetic Teeth Whitening   (www.cctwonline.org.) is an important ally.   Members of the CCTW frequently review rulings and activity across the country and revise our Best Practices and Consent Waiver forms to protect our customers.   If a salon purchases from a vendor that is not a CCTW member, they are flying blind as they won’t know the most current rules for safe and legal teeth whitening.

Members of the CCTW have access to lawyers with extensive experience helping salons respond to enquiries from dental boards.   In the event of a dental board enquiry (an infrequent occurrence), CCTW members have legal advice, procedures and letters that have successfully protected many salons and enabled them to continue offering this profitable and beneficial service.  Operating without the backing and knowledge of the CCTW can put a salon in a compromising situation.    It is important for salons to partner with vendors that take the business seriously and are willing to invest time and money in their professional industry organizations.

The CCTW works diligently with the Institute for Justice( IJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC )to ensure self-administered cosmetic teeth whitening continues to be available to salons and their customers and we are making great headway in this effort.

In summary,  the dental boards like to use these obscure cases to frighten people away but in most states  with the support of a CCTW member, teeth whitening  is a safe and legal service that offers your customers great results and your salon even greater profits!

Why Teeth Whitening Is Good for Your Health!

Friday, April 16th, 2010

The year 2009 promises to be an exciting year bringing hope and change, not only for the country but also for ourselves.  The opportunities for self-improvement are endless and include eating a better diet, exercising more, increasing your business knowledge, and attending networking events.  However, all of these take time and the results are not seen for months. There is one improvement that is almost instantaneous and benefits your health, your looks, your confidence and even your success in life.  What change can affect all these areas?  A bright, white smile!

We all know that a beautiful white smile is pleasant to look at but do you know how important it is to your personal and business success?  According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry national survey, 99.7% believe a smile is an important social asset and 74% of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for career success.

There are many ways to whiten teeth but the fastest and most effective approach is Chairside Teeth Whitening.  Once only available at dentist offices, this treatment can now be offered at day spas, med spas, salons and chiropractic wellness centers for a fraction of the price of the dentist.  Chairside whitening uses high strength hydrogen peroxide gel and patented LED cool blue light to accelerate the gel and quickly begin oxidizing both internal and external stains from the teeth.  In just 20-40 minutes, you can see 2-8 shades whiter teeth with little to no sensitivity.

But there are benefits to professional LED teeth whitening that go far beyond improving your looks and confidence.  Researchers in Hebrew University, Israel and the University of California San Francisco discovered that the combination of LED light and hydrogen peroxide killed the bacteria that cause cavities, gingivitis and halitosis (bad breath).  These microbes live in communities of biofilm in your mouth that are many layers deep and serve as physical barriers that most antibacterial products can’t penetrate.  The combination of LED light and peroxide provide a 1-2 punch to the nasty germs with the black colored bacteria absorbing the LED blue light and the peroxide killing the remaining bacteria. The health effects and whitening results from the light and peroxide last a minimum of 6 months and in some cases up to 2 years.   Chairside Teeth Whitening is extremely effective at reducing the bacteria that cause painful and expensive oral health problems like cavities and gum disease.   To read the research reports click on the link http://www.xpressmile.com/?section=Clinical_Research_Teeth_Whitening

What Kind of Teeth Whitening Is Right for Your Salon, Med Spa or Tanning Salon?

Friday, February 19th, 2010

So you’ve been thinking about adding teeth whitening as a new service?  You’ve read up on it, you know you will make money with it, talked to your colleagues in TanToday.com and are ready to bring on the service.  Now you need to decide what type of teeth whitening is right for your salon.

There are two primary teeth whitening options available in the market:  option one uses a dental LED acceleration light and option two uses the UV light from a tanning bed.  Each self-administered system has its benefits and can be used independently or together for great results and complete flexibility for your customers.  This article will explain the differences and help you determine which type of system is right for you.

Teeth whitening using an LED acceleration light offers fast (40 minutes or less), intensive, deep whitening that delivers 4-12 shades whiter teeth.  This system is comparable to what dentists offer with Zoom or BriteSmile.    The acceleration light can be connected into your T-Max timer so that it automatically turns on and off after a paid session and requires little or no personnel to administer.  This process will deliver about over $129-169 dollars profit per sale.  LED whitening is best suited for salons with a dedicated room that can also be used for other services such as massages or body wraps.  LED whitening is great for salons that are expanding their services with spa treatments and have a clientele interested in a full service day spa experience.

Tanning bed teeth whitening doesn’t require a dental grade acceleration light but uses UV light from the tanning bed.  Your customer places a pre-filled mouth tray into his/her mouth or paints the whitening gel onto their teeth and lies in the tanning bed for their specified tanning session.  This system works gradually to whiten each time the customer uses the tanning bed and results in 2-6 or more shades of whiter teeth.  UV whitening removes both internal and external stains but not as deep as the LED whitening.  This option is great for salons that don’t have a special room available for the LED acceleration light.  UV tanning can be used to maintain white teeth after a deep LED whitening. This process will deliver about $20-30 dollars profit per sale. Many salons carry both systems so budget minded customers can use UV whitening and those wanting a deeper, faster whitening use the LED acceleration.

Cosmetic teeth whitening is extremely popular and a great profit center for your tanning salon.  Think about what system will work best for your business and then get started with a reputable, quality supplier for a bright Spring and Summer this 2010!
